Number of AIDS patients increased in southern Lankaran, Astara, Masalli, Yardimli, Lerik, Jalilabad and Bilasuvar regions of Azerbaijan.
Presently, about 334 AIDS patients have been registered in the region, director of HIV / AIDS diagnostics laboratory of Lankaran Hygiene and Epidemiology Center Ramiali Ibishov said.
This number was 246 patients in corresponding period of 2008.
Ibishov said about 65-70 percent of HIV patients are drug addicts.
About 19 HIV patients were revealed in Lankaran during 9 months of 2009, he said.
Total number of AIDS patients was 181 in the region.
Ibishov said that 9 patients were revealed and registered during the last three months.
Fourteen of 19 patients are drug addicts that were registered in 9 months of 2009. Totally, 11 patients are villagers and 8 were from cities. Four of the infected people are married.
About 11 AIDS patients died within 9 months of 2009 and four of them for the last three months.
