Ukrainian authorities will restore monument to Azerbaijanis desecrated by vandals in Crimea, Ukrainian embassy in Azerbaijan said.

"Misconduct towards memorial built on Sapun hill in Sevastopol in Soviet times in honor of 77th Azerbaijani Division which fought heroically during World War II at the Crimean provoked a wave of outrage among the general population of Ukraine, representatives of official and public circles of our country,” the embassy said.

"As a result of immediate steps by the competent authorities of Ukraine, persons involved in this action were identified and arrested on Oct. 7,” the embassy said.

"As of Oct. 7, 2009 Sevastopol municipal authorities decided to fully restore the memorial complex. Ukrainian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Boris Klimchuk decided to allocate funds worth 10,000 hryvnia from the Foundation for Native Volyn, founded by him,  for Sevastopol city authorities for the reconstruction of memorial complex to Azerbaijani soldiers,” the embassy said.

"The Ukrainian authorities considers it their moral duty to establish justice in this matter in the shortest time possible,” the embassy said.
