The number of infants born in Azerbaijan for the first nine months of this year exceeded deaths by 2.7 times, the State Statistical Committee said.

"In Jan.-Sept., 109,500 babies were born while 39,000 facts of death were registered. Natural growth of country’s population made up 69,800 people,” the State Statistical Committee said.

State Statistics Committee says on average 401 babies were born in Azerbaijan per day. Nearly 54.1 percent were boys and 45.9 percent girls. As many as 1,196 twins and 18 triplets were born during this period.

Life expectancy for babies is 72.7 years, including 70 years for boys and 75.4 years for girls.

Every 1,000 people accounted for 16.6 births and 6.0 deaths.

The committee also gave details of marriages and divorces in Jan.-Sept. 2009.

According to this data, during the reporting period, the country registered 54,600 marriages and 5,800 divorces.

The average age of first time married men is 27 years, women - 23 years.
