Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev has attended a solemn ceremony to mark the 90th anniversary of the Baku State University, BSU.
The President was accompanied by his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva.
The event started with the performance of Azerbaijan`s anthem by a university choir.
President Ilham Aliyev made a speech at the ceremony to praise BSU`s role in the country`s life.
BSU`s Rector, MP Abel Maharramov spoke of the university`s history and current activities.
The rector said the university`s Scientific Council decided to award President Ilham Aliyev with BSU`s honorary doctor title.
Abel Maharramov presented the President with a mantle of the honorary doctor.
Other speakers at the event included rectors of the Moscow State University, Turkish Ataturk University, Tbilisi State University, Tehran University and Kazakhstan`s Lev Gumilev Eurasian University.
The ceremony brought together over 40 scholars from foreign countries, including Russia, Turkey, Germany and Georgia and heads of higher educational institutions.
