National Environmental Monitoring Department under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources conducted monitoring during the third decade of November to study level of pollution of the Kura and Aras Rivers and their branches, the ministry said.
Compared with the second decade of November, the flow rate in the Kura River in the third decade of November reduced by 18 cbm/sec and made up 204 cbm/sec.
The monitoring revealed that biogenic substances exceed the maximum permissible concentration in the Kura River as a result of pollution of the water with industrial and domestic wastes in Georgia and Armenia.
According to the monitoring, the flow rate in the Aras River, which borders on Armenia, made up 220 cbm/sec.
Phenols and copper compounds exceeded MPC by 4 times in Horadiz area of the River, copper compounds and phenols exceeded MPC by 2 and 3 times in Shahseven I, copper compounds exceeded MPC by 3 times in Bahmantapa.
Oxygen concentrations in equilibrium with the air range from about 5.52 mg/liter to 6.55 mg/liter.
