International conferences dedicated to mass violations of human rights during conflicts will be held in Berlin and Geneva due to the coming UN International Human Rights Day with the support of the Organization of Islamic Conference Youth Forum on Dec. 10, 2009, OIC YF Baku Office said.
The conferences are organized as part of the International Awareness Campaign “Justice for Khojaly" launched in May 8, 2008 by Leyla Aliyeva, General Coordinator for Intercultural Dialogue of the OIC Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation.
The campaign aims to bring the truth about the Khojaly tragedy to the attention of the world community, as well as achieve political, legal and moral evaluation of the tragedy of the world community.
“Planned activities both for scope and level of involvement of the civil community of European countries are the first of its kind devoted to this problem and go beyond purely diaspora activities,” an interview from Istanbul office of OIC YF said.
The Geneva conference will be held as part of the events by the UN Geneva office dedicated to the Human Rights Day, entitled “Armed conflicts and human rights.” The conference will bring together diplomats, heads of human rights organizations from various European countries and campaign’s activists.
The massacre in Khojaly will be considered along with crimes against humanity committed by the Nazis during the World War II, the genocide in Srebrenica and Rwanda. A disc about this bloody page of the Karabakh war prepared by an international group of activists of the campaign will be presented at the conference.
The report by the YF Secretary-General Forum Isgandarov will give information about political recognition of the Khojaly massacre in the OIC documents and importance of cooperation in this regard between the political structures of OIC and Europe as part of intercultural dialogue.
On the same day, three-day conference on massacres by Dashnaks against Azerbaijani and Jewish populations in Guba in 1918 will begin in Berlin at the initiative of the former Bundestag member Eduard Lintner.
"More than 100 guests are expected to participate at the event to be held at the Center for Development of German-Azerbaijani relations. Delegates will hear a report on "Khojaly - the forgotten tragedy", as well as become familiar with the disc prepared by the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign first translated into German,” national coordinator of the campaign in Germany Samir Pattser said.
Activists of the campaign will also circulate a declaration condemning both Khojaly and other massive human rights violations committed during the conflicts.
Both events will be discuss problem of international recognition of massacres of Azerbaijani population in Khojaly and specific recommendations will be developed for work in this regard in European countries.
