A monument is expected to be raised to 3,000 Azerbaijani soldiers who died at the Battle of Canakkale in 1915, in Turkey, Azerbaijani MP Gular Ahmadova told the media.

"Despite the fact that today Azerbaijan knows a lot about Turkey, Turkey is not familiar with Azerbaijan. We must seek to boost the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations both in universities and secondary schools. Extensive measures should be taken to raise awareness about Azerbaijani soldiers killed at the Battle of Canakkale," she said.

Battle of Canakkale is one of major battles of the World War II.

It took place between Entente (France and Great Britain) and the Central Powers (Ottoman Empire and Germany).

The battle, which took place at sea and on land, ended in a victory for the Ottomans.

A turning point of the war was March 18, 1915, when the ships of the Entente rolled back trying to pass through the Strait of Canakkale (Dardanelles).

This symbolic date is celebrated annually in Turkey.

Azerbaijani soldiers also participated in the battle.
