On Sunday at about 18:30 Kura River burst through nearly 30-40 meter part of a dam near Birinji Meyniman village in Hajigabul region of Azerbaijan.
As a result, flood water began entering the village, says a statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The manpower and equipment of Emergencies Ministry promptly launched the work to rebuild and strengthen damaged dam. Four residents of a village caught in the danger of surrounding by flood water were rescued by two helicopters of Emergencies Ministry, says the statement.
Civil Defence Troops of the Emergencies Ministry and Interior Ministry troops have evacuated women, children and the elderly from the village. According to preliminary data, up to 70 houses were partially surrounded by water. Restoration works are underway.
