The first International contest of young pianists named after the world-known Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev was included into the list of UNESCO events, letter of Azerbaijan National Commission for UNESCO to the rector of Baku Musical Academy says.

The UN General Assembly has proclaimed 2010 the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures and has designated UNESCO to play a leading role in the celebration of the Year - capitalizing on the Organization`s invaluable experience of over 60 years to advance “the mutual knowledge and understanding of peoples”.

The first Gara Garayev International contest of young pianists will take place in Baku, on December 2010 on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Baku Musical Academy.
