New digital traffic lights to be installed by the Ministry of Defense Industry plant.
"Our plant is capable of producing 150-200 digital traffic lights in a month. We have a sample of digital traffic lights. We will get to work as soon as we receive orders,” Head of Marketing and Foreign Cooperation Department of “Ufuq” plant at the Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense Industry Rizvan Aliyev said.
He said a digital traffic lights have been installed at the crossroads of Hajibeyov and Pushkin streets in Baku as an experiment.
“The Central Republican Traffic Police Office has announced it wants to obtain over 1,000 digital lights. We have not launched production yet. The Office says they have not been provided with funds for this purpose,” Aliyev added.
“Our plant will manufacture digital traffic lights as soon as we receive orders. Only Central Republican Traffic Police Office has stated it will place an order so far.”
Digital signals imported from Turkey have already been installed in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, he noted.
“The very idea of installing digital traffic lights in Baku is commendable.” The Defense industry Ministry plant has manufactured digital traffic lights since 2008. “Locally produced traffic lights have been installed in Shirvan, Bilasuvar, Gabala and other regions of the country. But they are not digital. 8 to 10 traffic regulators have been set up in each of these regions. In addition, executive authorities of Sumgait and Ganja are also willing to install our traffic lights on the streets of these cities. The delay in purchase of traffic lights is due to a lack of funds. They are waiting for funds to be allocated," Ufug plant official said. In his turn, Central Republican Traffic Police Office official Vasif Islamov did not specify when installation of digital traffic lights will start in the capital.
"It requires considerable funds to purchase these traffic signals. The issue will be included into the agenda of 2011,” Ismaov noted.
