Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations Hidayet Orujov met with visiting Chairman of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry Richard Stone.
Orujov pointed out there has never been national discrimination, anti-Semitism in Azerbaijan, highlighting national Heydar Aliyev`s role in keeping such traditions. President Ilham Aliyev, according to him, is successfully continuing this policy.
The committee chairman noted Jewish shrines are being repaired and restored. The synagogue in the Krasnaya Sloboda settlement has been opened after major reconstruction. Construction of the new synagogue is tipped to start in Baku.
He said monoethnic Armenia continues to occupy the Azerbaijani lands. Orujov underlined the world community including the Jewish one can be more active in protecting the right cause of Azerbaijan.
Professor of the Columbia University, Richard Stone gave a background of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry, saying the major aim of the organization is to study problems of Jews from the post-soviet area and help solve them. According to him, his visit aims at contributing to interstate relations and get knowledge about tolerance in Azerbaijan.
