Open heart surgery has been performed in the Medical and Diagnostic Centre in Azerbaijan's Shamakhi town for the first time. A humanitarian action the Shamakhi Medical and Diagnostic Centrem, initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and funded by Azerbaijan state oil company, SOCAR, will last from October 15 to 17.

The first operation in Medical and Diagnostic Centre was carried on 48-year-old Shamakhi resident Telman Abdullayev.

According to Rashad Mahmudov, Head of the cardiovascular diseases center at the Central Hospital of Oilmen, 168 open heart surgeries have been performed and angiographic examinations have been conducted for more than 500 patients in medical and diagnostic centres across the country through the SOCAR sponsorship so far.

The next open heart surgeries will be carried out in Barda Medical and Diagnostic Centre.
