Azerbaijan has set no age restrictions for those who will head to Mecca to perform Hajj pilgrimage this year, the Caucasus Muslims Board said.
“Last year, age restrictions were imposed due to spread of the “swine flu,” CMB official Mugaddas Payizov said.
“This year age restrictions have been eliminated as similar health risks don't exist any more.”
All pilgrims have undergone appropriate medical examination. Elderly and persons with chronic diseases, who also will make pilgrimage, have been recommended to take a vaccine against seasonal flu, Payizov added.
Azerbaijani pilgrims will head to Mecca by buses and planes with the support of the Caucasus Muslims Board. A total of 1,200 Azerbaijanis will leave for Mecca by buses on October 29, while the remaining 800 will leave by airplane from November 2 to 5.
Gurban Bayrami (Festival of Sacrifice) will be marked on November 16-17 this year.
