“Present mild weather is not peculiar for December in Azerbaijan. Despite abnormal cold weather in neighboring states, at the same time in the Western Europe, temperature observed in Azerbaijan currently is above the multiyear climate norm by 5 times”, Director of National Hydrometeorology Department at Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry Umayra Taghiyeva told APA.
According to her, the reason of it is that direction of westward air flows prevents interference of cold air masses into the country. And that is why atmosphere circulation is expected not change till the end of the week. In connection with there will not occur important change in weather in the next few days.
Taghiyeva said that weather temperature will not differ from the previous days, it will be 13-15 C in Baku and Absheron peninsula, 14-18 C in Lowland, 9-14 in mountains. But compared to beginning of the week, the weather will be little windy on last days. South wind will blow in the first half of the day on December 17-18. It will be followed by strong north wind in the evening on December 18. The wind will become milder again in the second half of the day on December 19. The weather will be changeable cloudy, mostly rainless in the next 3 days. Fog is forecasted in some regions during morning hours. Rain is predicted only in north, some north-western regions from night on December 18 to December 19.
Taghiyeva noted that such abnormal weather in December was observed in Azerbaijan in previous years as well.
