Concentration of overwhelming majority of country’s vehicles in the capital city area affects psychological state of citizens and reduces their ability to work, Chairman of the Center for Regional Development, Professor Chingiz Ismailov said.

"Currently, there are 950,000 or nearly a million vehicles in Azerbaijan,” Ismayilov said. “85% of them, despite they are registered in the regions of the country, are concentrated within Baku.”

A large concentration of cars is also a cause of pollution of the air space above Baku, increasing noise pollution, and therefore unhealthy residents, the expert believes.

"In Azerbaijan, every 10,000 people account for 105 cars while this figure is 508 in Georgia. But unlike neighbor country, we have almost 90% of vehicles concentrated in the capital," Ismailov said.
