The dangerous seismic zone measuring ten points was determined for the first time on the seismic zoning map of Azerbaijan in MSK-64 scale, the head of the department on seismological and geodynamic studies of the National Seismological Service Center of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences, Tair Mammadli, told Trend.
"The studies conducted on the basis of a new technique in Shamakhi-Ismayilli zone, revealed a zone on the territory from Shamakhi to Gonagkend. It can create seismic hazard measuring ten points. Another area in the territory of Azerbaijan, with possible seismic hazard measuring ten points, is on north of Sheki-Oguz region, on the border region with Russia," he said.
He said that "the map of the schematic seismic zoning of Azerbaijan" (1989) adequately reflects the possible seismic hazard on the territory of the republic. This work must be carried by developing additional methods.
The book called "Weak seismicity of the Azerbaijani territories and its relationship to contemporary geodynamics" has deep analysis of research studies on the seismicity of the territory of Azerbaijan.
