Save the Children held a conference on Livelihoods for Adulthood on January 18th, 2011 at the Rotunda Hall at the Landmark Complex. The aim of the conference was to explore the evaluations and accomplishments of one of the Creating Livelihoods for Adulthood Program (CLAP), which is being implemented in close collaboration and partnership with Reliable Future Youth Organization, with financial support from the European Union and Statoil.
As part of ongoing Azerbaijani State Programs including Poverty Reduction, Vocational Technical School reform, and De-Institutionalization Save the Children provided an assessment on the situation for young people in Azerbaijan by a presentation of findings from a nationwide youth market study which involved over 1,000 young people, businesses, school leaders, and government officials.
Based on the findings Save the Children offered recommendations to improve the issue of youth employment opportunities, and then opened up the floor for a roundtable discussion. The event brought together influential government officials, selected NGO partners and private sector leaders for to discuss the present and future of employment and employability for young people in Azerbaijan.
The project seeks to improve the organizational and programmatic capacity of selected local NGO’s concerned with youth rights; establish collaboration between State agencies, local authorities and target local NGOs; revise legislation and state budget allocations; pilot models for successful and sustainable adulthood transition for institutionalized and otherwise disadvantaged youth; and increase the role of the civil society organizations in policy-making through recognition of the role of civil society organizations in social reforms.
