“The Ukrainian community named after Shevchenko” of Azerbaijan will cooperate with compatriots from Ukraine.
Leader of the “Ukrainian community named after Shevchenko” of Azerbaijan Sergey Zarechniy and Head of the “Nikolaev Oblast Society for Ties with Compatriots” of Ukraine Tatyana Pilipchuk have discussed joint projects aimed at exchange of creative teams, studied possibility of participating in the festival of bard songs traditionally held in Baku and enabling ethnic Ukrainians in Azerbaijan to get to know architectural monuments, nature reserves and spiritual heritage of the Nikolaev city in Nikolaev Oblast.
They hope that these projects will become reality.
Ukrainian public organization "The Ukrainian community named after Shevchenko” was founded on November 1, 1997 by activists of the Ukrainian diaspora in Azerbaijan. As of today, it brings together 500 members and encompasses about 4,000 people. The community also operates 7 regional branches in the country. Ukrainian Sunday school has been launched at the Baku Slavic University in which 45 pupils study Ukrainian language, history and traditions.
The community also has actively working "Periwinkle" vocal band which sings Ukrainian songs.
The community members in Azerbaijan study in higher educational institutions of Ukraine with the help the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Members of the Ukrainian diaspora in Azerbaijan are mostly Orthodox Christians.
