Roughly 16 criminal cases on corruption against 30 people were sent to courts in Azerbaijan, Kamran Aliyev, the head on the Department for Combating Corruption reported.
Roughly 70 criminal cases are under investigation, Aliyev said. The department launched its activity in 2005. During this period, the department held a preliminary investigation in 385 criminal cases. The completed criminal proceedings against 698 people were sent to court.
He said the number of criminal cases under investigation increases every year.
About 747 complaints were received from citizens through the "hot line," Aliyev said.
He said criminal cases were filed on some appeals. An investigation is underway.
The appeals cover social protection, municipalities, education, law enforcement agencies and the private sector, he explained.
He called the cooperation with nongovernmental organizations in the fight against corruption important. He stressed that civil societies inform the department about the facts of corruption.
The amendments to the laws on "Operative-search activity" and "Prosecutor's Office" were adopted at today's parliamentary session.
