UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP and UNPF Resident Representative in Azerbaijan Fikret Akcura visited the Nakhchivan State University as part of his visit to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.
The meeting was held at the International Relations and Foreign Languages Department of the University. Rector of Nakhchivan State University, deputy of Milli Majlis Isa Habibbayli briefed the guest on the activity of the University and also highlighted the role of the United Nations in relations between the countries.
Mr. Habibbayli said Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan resulted in the occupation of 20 percent of the country`s territories. As a result of the occupation, more than one million Azerbaijanis were driven out from their native lands. He expressed his regret that UN Security Council resolution on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict has not been implemented yet.
Fikret Akcura described various projects implemented by UNDP and UNPF in Azerbaijan, and outlined future plans on development of science and education here.
On completion of a meeting, Fikret Akcura also toured the University and familiarized himself with education corps.
