The international chess blitz tournament in memory of Heydar Aliyev was held at the Azerbaijan State Economic University.
The contest involved Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Gadir Huseynov, Eltaj Safarli, Rauf Mammadov, Azer Mirzoyev, Sarkhan Guliyev, Vasif Durarbayli, Farhad Tahirov, grandmaster women Zeynab and Turkan Mammadyarovs, as well as the winner of Baku Open 2011 and silver winner in Nakhchivan Open 2012 Sergey Zhigalko (Belarus).
The tournament held on Swiss system in nine rounds involved 34 chess players. Shahriyar Mammadyarov who gained 8 of 9 possible points took the first place. Azer Mirzoyev and Rauf Mammadov shared the 2nd and 3rd places with 6.5 points. Azer Mirzoyev became second by additional indicators.
The winners were awarded with valuable prizes while the winner won another cup. The awarding ceremony involved the rector of the Azerbaijan State Economic University, deputy of Milli Majlis Shamsaddin Hajiyev, as well as representatives of the Chess Federation of Azerbaijan and the managing staff of the University.
