An agreement was signed between the European Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan in December, immediately after adoption of the decision on holding the first European Games in Baku, vice-president of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzadeh said, speaking at the first meeting of the Organizing Committee of the first European Games chaired by President Ilham Aliyev on Saturday.
"This agreement was signed by Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov on behalf of the Azerbaijani state. A thought that the European Games should not emulate the worldwide Olympic Games was repeatedly voiced during discussion of the agreement, as well as numerous meetings with the leadership of European Olympic Committee. This means that this event should have its own character, "he said.
