Uzbekistan officially quits GUUAM

Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov signed a final legislative act on the country's officially quitting GUUAM alliance.

Legislative act "On invalidating of the Convention envisaging mutual assistance on consulate issues among the GUUAM countries" means that the country officially quitted the GUUAM. The document was ratified by both chambers of parliament, and signed by the President later on.

GUAM was established by Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova during the Council of Europe summit held in Strasbourg on 10 October, 1997. Uzbekistan joined the alliance during NATO Summit in Washington in 1999. The official Tashkent declared that it left the alliance in 2003, APA informs.
