Azerbaijan submits 7 MoUs to enhance cooperation with Malaysia

Azerbaijan has submitted seven memoranda of understanding to Malaysia containing its proposals to enhance bilateral cooperation and relationship.

Malaysia is looking into them which cover establishment of a a joint commission, double taxation agreement and cultural and educational cooperation, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar after talks with his Azerbaijan counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in Putrajaya on Friday, Malaysian Bernama news agency reports.

Mammadyarov arrived Thursday for a three-day visit to discuss issues pertaining to the preparation for the 33rd Session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers which will be held in Azerbaijan from June 19 to 21.

He also briefed Syed Hamid on Azerbaijan's plan to open an embassy office in Kuala Lumpur.

"They are very interested in learning from our success," Syed Hamid said.

He said Azerbaijan requested more places for its government officials to train in Malaysia, especially in international relations, international economics and information technology.

Three Azerbaijans are already studying in the International Islamic University while four are attending courses at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations.

Mammadyarov extended an official invitation from his government to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to visit Azerbaijan.
