Former department chief of Economic Development Ministry committed suicide

Shaliyev was transferred from National Security Ministry jail to Justice Ministry Penitentiary Service treatment station on August 5 this year with hernia diagnosis, Prosecutors' Office press service told the APA.

He underwent surgery on August 9, 2006 and recovered. At 7:00a.m today Shaliyev cut his right and left vessels with non-permanent blade. He died despite the medical aid.
Justice Ministry, National Security Ministry and Prosecutors’ Office officials surveyed the scene. They found blade and a letter supposed to be written by him. In his letter he asks his family to forgive him and does not accuse anyone but himself in his death. His body will undergo forensic medical examination.

The Justice Ministry is conducting investigation on this fact. The prosecutor's office has launched a criminal case under article 125 of the Criminal Code and the investigation is under way.

Alihuseyn Shaliyev was arrested facing the charges of abuse of powers, bribery, embezzlement and several other grave crimes.
