Over the past 24 hours, Armenia’s armed forces 47 times violated ceasefire on various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said Feb. 11.

The Armenian military, stationed in the village of Paravakar of Armenia’s Ijevan district, opened fire at the Azerbaijani armed forces’ positions on the nameless heights and the village of Kehneqishlaq of Azerbaijan’s Agstafa district.

The Armenians also violated ceasefire from the nameless heights in the Krasnoselsk district of Armenia, opening fire at the Azerbaijani military positions on the nameless heights and the Garavalilar village of Gadabay district.

The Azerbaijani military positions also came under fire from the positions near Qekarkh village of the Terter district, Shuraabad, Bash Gervend, Yusifjanli, Kengerli, Shikhlar, Qaraqashli, Novruzlu, Shirvanli villages of the Aghdam district, Kuropatkino village of the Khojavand district, Horadiz, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Abdurrakhmanli villages of the Fizuli district and Mehdili village of Jabrayil district.

Aside from that, the Armenians also violated ceasefire from the positions on nameless heights in Goranboy, Khojavand and Fizuli districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
