Delivery of electric energy to Georgia may cause shortage of energy in Azerbaijan

24 January 2006 [05:14] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerenergy Joint-Stock Company (JSC) will deliver 30 megawatts of electric energy to Georgia daily until the accident happened in the electric main crossing to Georgia through the territory of Northern Ossetia is removed.

As APA reports according to the Azerenergy Vice-President Marlen Asgarov, Azerenergy has started transmitting electric energy to Georgia since 18:00 last day.

The energy systems of Georgia and Azerbaijan are working concurrently at the present time. After the accident in the electric main is removed the Georgian party will begin paying back electric energy supplied by Azerbaijan.

In the mean time, M.Asgarov also does not exclude that shortage of energy can occur in Azerbaijan for some period in connection with electric energy delivery to Georgia: "It was not intended to transmit electric energy to Georgia this year and we supply the neighboring country with electric energy only in cases of emergency. We delivered 22 million kWh of electric energy to Georgia when the analogous accident happened there in April of the past year and they paid our energy back at the end of the year. Georgia also paid its energy debt in volume of 32 million kWh to Azerbaijan".
