"Azerbaijan and Georgia make an important contribution to the energy security of Europe," says Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov during his speech at the IV International Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi, Azernews reports.

"Azerbaijan and Georgia make an important contribution to Europe's energy security. Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas, as well as the Southern Gas Corridor, realized with the joint participation of our countries, are considered strategic projects from this point of view," the Minister said.

According to the Minister, the Southern Gas Corridor is allowed to directly transport Azerbaijani gas to Europe. Last July, Azerbaijan and the European Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding, according to which natural gas supplies from Azerbaijan will be doubled by 2027.

"Today we are starting to build an environmentally friendly energy bridge to Europe together. In this regard, a Strategic Partnership Agreement between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary was signed in Bucharest last December. Bulgaria has already expressed its intention to join the project. We hope that this project will make an additional contribution to the energy security of many European countries," the Prime Minister emphasized.

The Prime Minister also said that Azerbaijan has very good economic and trade relations with the countries in the region and addressed the Armenian Prime Minister.

"I would like to tell Nikol Pashinyan that Azerbaijan expressed its position regarding the signing of the peace agreement right after the Second Garabagh War.

"According to the statement signed on November 10, 2020, Azerbaijan has been working for a long time towards opening communications and has expressed its position. We want communications to be open, but it does not depend on us alone. If the other side wants it, we are ready for it. In other cases, we have enough opportunities," Prime Minister Ali Asadov said.
