Prosecutor's Office to probe Turkish power company

13 April 2006 [12:10] - TODAY.AZ
The criminal case started against Turkish electric power supplier Barmek-Azerbaijan has been forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office, Minister of Taxes Fazil Mammadov said Wednesday.

He said the criminal proceedings cover the charges of tax evasion and embezzlement of property, AssA-Irada reported.

"The company was found to have dodged taxes worth 12.3 billion new manats ($13.3bn). This has been proven in court and the amount transferred to the state budget," Mammadov said.

Several executives of Barmek were earlier detained on charges of involvement in financial machinations and misappropriation of property.
