Last year, Turkiye increased its share of world plastic tableware and kitchenware exports to 2.41 percent with $664.1m. The sector, which reached an export figure of 12.7 times its imports last year, became Israel with the highest export volume of $106.5m.
Turkiye, by exporting $664.1m of plastic tableware and kitchenware last year, rose to the 4th place in the world in this field.
According to the "Plastic Tableware and Kitchenware Foreign Trade Report" prepared by the Glassware Association (ZÜCDER), world plastic tableware and kitchenware exports reached $27.5bn in 2022.
China was the world's largest exporter in this area with $17.2bn, followed by the USA with $1.1bn and Germany with $843m.
Turkiye, which was in 5th place with $620m in the previous year, increased its exports to $664m and its ranking to 4th place last year. Turkiye's share in world exports reached 2.41 percent.
Other top 10 countries are listed as Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Mexico.
Turkiye ranked 54th in the world's plastic tableware and kitchenware imports.
Exports are 12.7 times more than imports
While Turkiye's plastic table and kitchenware exports increased by 2.52 times in the last 10 years, it increased by 64.8 percent in the last 5 years. On the other hand, imports decreased by 36.7 percent in the last 10 years and by 14.2 percent in the last 5 years.
As of 2022, the sector reached an export figure of 12.7 times its imports and had a foreign trade surplus of $606m last year.
The export value per kilogram of plastic tableware and kitchenware increased by 11.6 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year and reached the level of $3.27. The countries to which this product group was exported with the highest price were Germany with $4.06, Morocco with $3.99, and the Netherlands with $3.63.
Highest export to Israel
While Turkiye exported plastic tableware and kitchenware to a total of 198 countries last year, Israel took the lead with a share of 106.5 million dollars and 16.21 percent. It was followed by the USA with 38.3 million dollars and Italy with 33.2 million dollars.
Other top 10 countries are the United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Morocco, and Libya. Iraq and France, which were among the 10 countries with the highest exports in 2021, left their place to Italy and Spain in 2022. Italy, which was not in the top 10 in the 2021 list, rose to the 3rd place in the 2022 list.
Although the USA is the farthest country among export markets, Turkey's plastic kitchenware exports to this country increased by 15 percent in the last year and by an average of 48 percent annually in the last 5 years.
