06 July 2023 [12:09] - TODAY.AZ

"We are currently the object of French colonial policy" at an event entitled 'Towards the total elimination of colonialism', Azernews reports, citing Luc Carole of the Martinique Freedom Party.

"The strategy of the French state is to replace the local population with the French population. The replacement is being carried out through genocide.

The use of poisonous substances in agriculture has resulted in 92 percent of our people getting cancer. France claims that cancer is embedded in our genetics. France talks about democracy but does not implement what it says," he adds.

It should be noted that an event on the theme "Towards the total elimination of colonialism" is being held at the Baku Congress Centre in the framework of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from October 25-26, 2019. The summit was attended by delegations from more than 120 countries and was preceded by a "Senior Officials Meeting" and a "Ministerial Meeting" on October 21-24. The summit was convened under the framework of the "Final Document" adopted at the Ministerial Meeting of the NAM Coordinating Bureau in Caracas, Venezuela from July 18-21.

At the summit, a special event titled "Towards the Total Elimination of Colonialism" was held at the Baku Congress Centre. The event was organized to discuss the importance of ending colonialism and to promote the ideals of sovereignty, self-determination, international solidarity, and the right to peace and development for all peoples.

The Non-Aligned Movement was established in 1961 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia by the initiative of President of Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito, President of Egypt Gamal Abdel Nasser, Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, President of Indonesia Sukarno, and President of Ghana Kwame Nkrumah. As of October 2019, the organization consists of 120 member states, including the non-UN member state of Palestine, as well as 17 other observer countries and 10 observer organizations.

At the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, President María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés emphasized the importance of the Non-Aligned Movement in promoting the declaration of the “International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace”. She also called for a renewed commitment to multilateralism and international law as the only effective formula to achieve a feeling of sustainable and lasting peace.

The 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement was an important step towards the total elimination of colonialism and the promotion of a fairer and more equitable and peaceful world order.
