Turkish parliament’s foreign affairs commission has approved a bill on the international agreement on Nabucco gas pipeline.
According to the parliament’s website, the pipeline taking natural gas from Turkey’s east and south will deliver to Austria through Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.
The project is expected to supply Europe with gas for about 50 years, said the website.
Azerbaijan is seen as a crucial potential provider for the Nabucco pipeline, construction of which is scheduled to begin in 2009, with the completion date set for 2013-2014.
The pipeline will transport 31 billion cubic metres of gas to the energy-hungry EU from the Middle East and Asia so as to reduce the bloc’s reliance on Russian supplies.
