Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Sunday that mission of Council of Europe in rooting common values like human rights and democracy was very important.
Presidency officials said gradually growing discrimination in the world, alliance of civilizations and common values between Turkey and Europe were discussed during Gul's meeting with Thorbjorn Jagland, Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, and an accompanying delegation.
Gul said CoE has an important role in opposing negative movements like discrimination, intolerance, and xenophobia.
Jagland said fundamental values of Turkey and CoE were common and eulogized Turkey's role in spreading the values in question in its region.
