The ceremony is to be attended by its chairman, Rafig Aliyev, and state adviser on ethnic policy, Hidayat Orujov, the Committee told AssA-Irada.
The church dating back 16 centuries was abolished on an order of the Russian Tzar in 1836 and transferred to the Grigorian Church of Armenians, who were moved to the Caucasus region. This deprived the local Christian population of the place of worship. In 1850s, the archives of the Alban Church were burned by Armenians. The issue of restoring the church was raised during a visit by Pope John Paul II to Azerbaijan a few years ago.
Considering this and the request of the Alban-Udin community, the Azeri State Committee tacked restoration operations.
