Japan to carry out nationwide diet study

25 September 2013 [17:30] - TODAY.AZ
For the first time in the history of the country the Japanese authorities have decided to carry out a nationwide study of the structure of population's diet and its effect on health.

More than US$ 80 lakh have been allocated for the first year of the three-year programme. The research will be carried out among about 10 thousand people, mainly of middle age and senior citizens from all-over Japan. They would be required to note the names of food products consumed by them daily over several weeks in spring, summer, autumn and winter. A thorough watch will be kept on their health. Organisers of the study want to scientifically prove the benefit of the traditional low fat Japanese diet based on protein derived mostly from sea-food and soya beans for the modern humans.
