In the coming days, Baku residents will see special lanes on city roads intended only for buses and emergency vehicles.

The lanes are planned for roads with three or more driving lanes.

At the first stage, some six roads, including Bibieybat, Nobel Avenue, Yusif Safarov Street, Salatin Askerova, Rashid Behbutov and Ahmad Rajabli have been chosen.

The work will be performed in coordination with relevant agencies, such as the Executive Power of Baku City and the Main State Traffic Police of the Interior Ministry.

Measures provided for road safety were prepared and submitted to the Commission by "Azeryolservis" and other relevant bodies, which intend to create special lanes on about 50 of Baku’s streets and avenues.

As part of the pilot project, special lanes will be put on the four roads. If successful, then additional service lanes will be added to other streets and avenues.

Bus lanes will be added to a stretch of road from the Bibi Heybat mosque to Baku Water Sports Palace, as well as in the areas from the intersection of Yusif Safarov Street with Khojaly Avenue to the intersection of Babek Avenue and from the Central Police Department to the intersection with Mehdi Mehdizade Street.

Moreover, similar work will be carried out on Salatin Asgarova Street from the intersection of Jeyhun Hajibeyli Street to the intersection with Azadlig Avenue, as well as at Rashid Behbudov Street from the intersection with Zarifa Aliyeva to the intersection with Bakikhanov Street.

Measures to normalize traffic in Baku have begun since the hosting of the first European Games held in the city this summer, when the government decided to alleviate traffic in the capital.

One of the significant measures reducing the car flow on the roads has been the rules restricting the entry of vehicles that are registered in the Azerbaijani regions to Baku. After positive results, the government considered to make the rules permanent. According to some experts, the restriction dramatically improved the situation on Baku roads.
