Vilayat Eyvazov: “Radical opposition of Azerbaijan seeks way for weapon acquisition”

In the opinion of the IM deputy head, although it is not easy to acquire arms illegally in the country and such facts are suppressed, some individual attempts to get weapon by oppositionists still happen.  

Meanwhile, Vilayat Eyvazov refused to identify specific names, appealing to the investigation secrecy necessity.  

«I call on the opposition to review their positions”, Eyvazov said, having underlined, that on 6 November fair parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan, at the result of which, ”as before, the sound forces will be elected to the Parliament”.

Touching upon the possibilities of unrests in the country, the deputy Minister noted, “all attempts to hold such actions will be suppressed”.  

There is not armed opposition in the country, Ali Karimli, the chairman of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan (reformers), told Trend.

It was a comment to the statement of Vilayat Eyvazov, the representative of the Internal Affairs Ministry.

According to Karimli, the statement of the ministry representative at the event of the GUAM in Baku on 25 July is groundless. “If there is an armed opposition in Azerbaijan, what the law enforcements bodies do? It is complete imagination. It is impossible. Our prop is people and we rest upon it. We fight against government without arm, but with carnation in arm. The parties of the Azadlig block run for parliamentary elections resting upon the people,” he underlined.
