EU and China are close to agreement on abolition of duties on electric vehicles

Brussels and Beijing may soon reach an agreement to abolish duties on the import of Chinese electric vehicles to Europe, Azernews reports.

"We are close to a decision with China to cancel duties. We are close to an agreement: China can commit to offering electric vehicles in the EU at least at the minimum price. This would eliminate the issue of distorted competition due to unfair subsidies, which is why the duties were initially introduced," he emphasized.

The parliamentarian also stated that he did not share Germany's concerns about possible retaliatory measures. As an example, he cited duties on Chinese electric bikes, which Beijing initially opposed but eventually accepted.

It should be noted that in recent months, there have been several major trade disputes between the EU and China, which have been referred to as "trade wars" in the media. On October 29, the European Union finally approved the introduction of additional duties on electric vehicle imports from China. Depending on the manufacturer, these duties will amount to 35.3%. China has already challenged this move at the WTO. At the same time, Brussels has stated that it will continue to search for an alternative solution in cooperation with Beijing.
