Two high-profile events highlighting the achievements of COP29 were held in London on December 4, underscoring the significance of the outcomes and their impact on the Caspian region's green energy ambitions.
The Caspian Policy Center organized a session focused on Caspian energy security and COP29 outcomes, which addressed the green initiatives undertaken by Caspian basin countries and Türkiye during the conference. The discussions also covered the region’s environmental aspirations and potential cooperation opportunities.
The event was attended by the ambassadors of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan to the UK, alongside representatives from the UK Foreign Office, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the European Union Delegation to the UK, and energy experts. Speakers praised Azerbaijan's successful hosting of COP29 within a short preparation period and commended its diplomatic leadership in delivering effective outcomes.
A British official emphasized the immense green energy potential of the Caspian basin, highlighting its growing importance in the global transition to sustainable energy sources.
A second forum, held at King’s College London, explored the results of COP29, Azerbaijan's legacy as the host, and its ambitions for future COP processes. The event featured prominent figures, including Professor Shitij Kapur, President of King’s College, Chris Skidmore, former British Energy Minister, and other key climate experts and officials.
Speakers highlighted critical achievements of COP29 under Azerbaijan’s chairmanship, including progress on financial goals and carbon market mechanisms, achieved despite challenging geopolitical and economic conditions.
The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations also acknowledged the success of COP29, expressing gratitude to Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, for his leadership as President of COP29.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to the UK, Elin Suleymanov, addressed both events, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s pivotal role in the conference's success. He also thanked the UK for its active and constructive participation, noting that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to Azerbaijan for COP29 symbolized the UK’s strong commitment to the global climate agenda.
