Local by-elections to be conducted October 6

The Central Election Commission (CEC) will conduct partial repeat, additional, new and first local elections in some constituencies in Azerbaijan October 6 this year.

As APA reports, the CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov tald that the repeat local elections will be conducted in 141 local authorities, on which the results of the December, 2004 local elections were annulled by the precinct election commissions and the CEC.

New elections will be conducted to the local authorities with less than 1/3 resigned members, added elections to local authorities with more than 1/3 resigned members, and first elections will be conducted to the local authorities that were established after 2004.

Panahov said that these elections will cover 8 constituencies and to 1941 seats in local authorities. These elections will determine the compositions of totally 604 municipal authorities. The calendar plan of the partial repeat local elections scheduled for 6 October was ratified at the CEC's sitting.

Besides, "Instruction on creating initiative group of voters in local elections, rules on nomination of candidacies at their own initiatives or at the voters' initiative" and "Instruction on rules of nomination of candidacies by political parties or alliances of political parties in local elections" were ratified in the CEC’s sitting.
