Parliament-approved CEC members take up

19 December 2006 [10:57] - TODAY.AZ
Central Election Commission members approved in the last session of Parliament have already taken up their assignment.

New members have all working conditions, CEC secretary Natig Mammedov told APA.

He said that CEC has not been formed in full composition as there are still two vacancies. Nevertheless, it will not cause any problems and there is a quorum to hold meetings and approve decisions.

Milli Majlis member, executive secretary of the New Azerbaijani Party Ali Ahmedov said that the assignment of the new members depend on parties in minority in parliament.

"One of the vacancies belongs to Musavat. Another one belongs to non-party members but this vacancy should be agreed with minority. CEC will be formed in full composition when the representatives are introduced to the parliament," he said.

Stating that the formation of the CEC is just, Ali Ahmedov said that election commissions in this format are very successful.

"It is impossible to form commissions in parity basis, as Azerbaijan is a country with majority electoral system. Only 500 candidates among 2000 were party members. 1500 were non-party members. The opposition does not trust in other party and non-party representatives in CEC. So, the election commissions should not be composed of only governing and opposition parties."
