Rasim Musabekov: "Even such loyal friends of Moscow, as Armenia and Belarus, will not dare to join Russia and recognize independence of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno Garabagh and Trans-Dniester"

Russian parliamentarians may discuss recognition of independence of the so-called "Nagorno-Garabagh Republic" and even adopt due announcements.

The due statement was made by famous political scientist Rasim Musabekov, commenting on the possible influence of recognition of independence of Kosovo on the further recognition of the so-called "Nagorno-Garabagh".

He said that, however, recognition is a prerogative of executive powers but not parliamentarians, while the Foreign Ministry of Russia is more cautious in this issue.

"This can be evidenced by the recent interview of Foreign Minister of Russia Lavrov. He said Moscow will block any unilateral relations regarding Kosovo, which will not take into account Belgrade's opinion, in the UN Security Council. However, he opposed the intention to recognize independence of other separatist regimes, noting that it stimulates undesirable separatist processes in more than 200 critical points throughout the world".

He said it is quite clear, as Kosovo independence will be recognized not only by the USA and most CE countries, but also Canada, Japan and most Moslem countries, which means nearly a half of the UN member-states, upon West's demand.

"Even such loyal friends of Moscow, as Armenia and Belarus, will not dare to join Russia and recognize independence of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno Garabagh and Trans-Dniester", he noted.

"Thus, Russia will be lonely in its steps, which will, hardly, raise its influence in the world, not speaking of that the careless actions of Moscow will immediately lead to the formal withdrawal of the GUAM states from the CIS and their accelerated joining NATO. Thus, I think, mass recognition of separatist regime is ruled out".

He said the Kosovo precedent may inspire many separatists to insist on the similar resolution. Therefore, he stressed the necessity to observe the situation and hold consultations with concerned countries both in the framework of the OSCE and inside the United Nations.

"Perhaps, after the Kosovo precedent, it will be easier for the GUAM states to mobilize support to resist aggressive separatism", he concluded.
