Paata Davitaya: "Kosovo precedent will not be applied to Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh"

19 February 2008 [14:20] - TODAY.AZ
"We have declared during the meeting of the united opposition of Georgia that we do not recognize independence of Kosovo and call upon Georgian authorities to declare support for the territorial integrity of Serbia".

The due announcement was made by Paata Davitaya, one of the leaders of Georgia's united opposition and chairman of the political movement "By our own", commenting on the declaration of Kosovo's independence.

"The problem of Kosovo's independence is also important for Georgia, which has its own frozen conflicts. However, it seems to me that Russia will not apply the precedent to Abkhazia and Tskhinvali. And no doubt that the Kosovo precedent will not be used in case with the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh.

The world is aware of the difference between the Kosovo and Nagorno Karabakh problems. This was promoted by competent and purposeful work of the Azerbaijani government.

In particular, the government of Azerbaijan launched criminal proceedings into the facts of ethnic cleansing of Khojaly residents and owing to it the world community is aware that those who organized the Khojaly tragedy were wanted by International Police.

We have proposed the Georgian government to pass Azerbaijan's way. Unfortunately, our powers do not listen to the recommendations of the opposition", Davitaya noted.
