89 cases of HIV infection were fixed in Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2008, reports the press service for the Ministry of Health.

Of them 88 are citizens of Azerbaijan and 1 is a foreigner.
Of 88 citizens of Azerbaijan 68 (77.3%) are men, 20 (22.7%) are women. AIDS killed 12 people in the first quarter of 2008 in Azerbaijan.
Thus, through the reported period 26 citizens of Azerbaijan (29.5%) were infected via drugs, 12 (13.6%) due to heterosexual relations and 1 (1.1%) mother-to-child infection.
Of 88 citizens 25 were infected in Baku in Absheron, 60 in other regions of the country and 3 from unknown sources.
Of this number 16 (18.2%) were infected abroad.
Cases of HIV-infection were recorded in 34 families in the first quarter of this year. A mother, a father and a child were infected in one family, a husband and a wife in 4 families, women in 4 families and men in 25 families.
