Armenian ombudsman not invited for ombudsmen conference in Baku

Armenian ombudsman Armen Arutyunyan has not been invited for participation in the sixth international conference of ombudsmen to be held in Baku on June 18-19.














According to the press service for the office of Armenian human rights activist, Armenian ombudsman has not received either official or unofficial invitation from the Azerbaijani side.

This is not the first case when Azerbaijani ombudsman rejects to cooperate with Armenia's. Last year similar arrangement was held in Yerevan. Azerbaijani ombudsman did not accept the invitation to take part in the conference, held in Yerevan.

It should be noted that the 6th international conference of ombudsmen on "Human rights in the globalizing world" will be held in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku on June 18-19. The event is devoted to the National Day of Human Rights and 60th anniversary of the US Human Rights Declaration.

The conference will be attended by representatives of the US High Commissioner on human rights and CE commissioner on human rights, president of the Institute of International Ombudsmen, Ombudsman of Iova, representative of UNESCO headquarters, representatives of ombudsmen of a number of European countries and CIS.

The conference participants will discuss prospects of development of mutual ties between ombudsmen, improvement of the work of institutes of national human rights, consolidation of activity in the sphere of human rights.
