Azerbaijan State Committee for Religious Associations (SCRA) chairman is concerned with the fact that some Azerbaijani youth studying abroad are influenced by intelligence agencies.

"Some Azerbaijani youth who study abroad are influenced by intelligence agencies. Sometimes term of their education is extended 10 to 12 years. There are more concerns about them after they return to home," SCRA chairman Hidayat Orujov said at a parliamentary meeting.
Orujov said youth must be allowed to study abroad only upon the permission of respective administrative bodies.
He said as many as 434 religious communities have been registered in Azerbaijan so far.
There are 1,750 mosques in Azerbaijan. As many as 1,048 of them operate permanently and 50 are seasonable mosques.
"There are 551 pilgrim sites in the country. Fifty of them are operating at the moment and 50 have been registered," Orujov added.
Member of parliament and Unified Azerbaijan Popular Front Party chair Gudrat Hasanguliyev said religious education of youth abroad must be permitted by respective governmental bodies.
