Mass burial site in Azerbaijan may vanish away

28 July 2009 [17:23] - TODAY.AZ
The human bones at the mass burial site in Azerbaijan’s Guba region are decaying at a fast pace,” Archeology and Ethnography Institute territorial branch head Gahraman Agayev said.
“If we do not take timely action, we will not be able to prevent destruction of bones in the mass burial site in Guba from September. If this happens, we will lose the burial site,” Agayev said.

“I gave some instructions to prevent, at least, cracks in the bones. But this is not the way out, because we are still using primitive methods to preserve these bones,” Agayev said.

The researchers said these methods will not be able to maintain the integrity of the mass grave, which is irrefutable proof of the genocide perpetrated by Armenians against Azerbaijani population.

“The unstable weather in Guba has bad effects on the bones and skulls. In order to prevent the fragmentation of the bones, it is necessary to lubricate a special substance which we do not have. Unfortunately, the relevant structures are still not given us the substance to prevent the bone fractures. If this keeps on like this, the bones will decay in a massive way after September,” he said.
