Confused drivers could be forgiven for thinking they were in Berlin rather than Birmingham after a car park machine started issuing instructions in German.
Motorists were told 'Die Parkplätze sind voll' to let them know that Birmingham's Brunel Street car park had no space.
But strangely, the machine uses English at all other times.
A sign taped on to the machine reads: 'If display shows German writing, it means car park full.'
Birmingham City Council said the machine had been broken since last month when the Frankfurt Market was in full swing.
'The system is German,' said a spokesman for the authority.
