Georgia, United Kingdom hold political consultations

The Foreign Ministry of Georgia hosted the next round of bilateral political consultations between Georgia and the United Kingdom on March 23.
The British delegation was headed by Michael Davenport, Director of Russia, South Caucasus and Central Asia Directorate [UK].

The meeting was also attended by Denis Keefe, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UK Georgia, and Carl Spychal, the Political Officer of the Embassy.

The Georgian side was represented by Foreign Minister Affairs Grigol Vashadze, Director of Department of European Affairs Shota Gvineria, Director of Political Department Khatuna Salukvadze, Director of Department of European Integration Tea Akhvlediani, Director of Department of International Organizations Sergi Kapanadze and Director of Department of Security Policy and Euro-Atlantic Integration Nikoloz Rtveliashvili.

At meeting the sides discussed issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Georgia and the UK, current democratic processes in Georgia, relations between Georgia and EU, Georgia's participation in the Eastern Partnership initiative, main trends of Georgia's European and Atlantic integration, current situation on the occupied territories of Georgia and current developments in South Caucasus.

The British side reiterated its full support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The sides also stated ready to cooperate for further improvement of bilateral and multilateral relations, and underlined the urgency of holding bilateral political consultations on a regular basis.

The previous round of consultations between the UK and Georgia was held in London on October 12, 2009.
