Just days after discovering the city’s oldest living man was actually dead, Tokyo seems to have ‘lost’ his 113-year-old compatriot. Fusa Furuya does not live at the address officials have for her, they confirmed, and not even her daughter seems to know where she is.
Her disappearance is doubly embarrassing as only last week Sogen Kato, Tokyo’s oldest man at 111, was found mummified in a bedroom. It’s been estimated he died more than 30 years ago but nobody noticed. Welfare officers have also ‘lost’ a 106-year-old. Japan is gearing up for a holiday in honour of the elderly next month.
